Get Real-Time Monitoring of
Your OSHA Lockout/Tagout Compliance Areas with
Rockpile Solution's New GlyphStream ORCA Kiosk Station™

Cleveland, Ohio - March 07, 2003

The GlyphStream ORCA Kiosk Station™ provides web-enabled real-time monitoring of critical OSHA Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) environments [29CFR 1910.147]. The ORCA™ system is built on Rockpile Solutions's proven GlyphStream™ Enterprise Data Server™ and provides for the automatic tracking and personnel management of OSHA lockout/tagout (LOTO) regulated work activities in designated and/or physically restricted work areas. The ORCA system keeps track of who is within a restricted area, ingress and egress times as well as equipment ID and job activity.

In addition, the ORCA Station also:

  • tracks and automatically schedules regulatory inspections including required data collection
  • employs fully customizable "Just-In-Time" positive acknowledgement training which complements your existing lockout/tagout training program (a feature especially useful for contract employees and subcontractors)
  • enables real-time "in area" information for emergency personnel evacuation situations
  • manages group lockout/tagout situations
  • generates real-time alerts
  • provides a variety of configurable reports
  • can be directly integrated into most portal access and security systems
  • can be directly integrated with most enterprise level work order data systems

The ORCA Kiosk Station

The ORCA system consists of a portable, touchscreen kiosk with an integrated barcode or RFID scanner and the ORCA Administrator, a secure, web-based management interface for the ORCA system. Users are issued badges with integrated barcodes or RFID tags which they scan at the ORCA kiosk to identify themselves and (optionally) to gain access to the restricted area. The ORCA system can also be configured to work with most existing employee identification and access control systems for those enterprises that already have a security system in place.

The ORCA kiosk is generally placed in a centralized location. However, the ORCA kiosk can be placed at the entrance to the compliance area. Each person desiring to enter the area scans their badge. The system then authorizes the user and requests job information which includes equipment ID, job code, task, and subtask information. Users are then (optionally) presented with, and asked to acknowledge that they have read and understood, any lockout/tagout instrucitons and other safety or regulatory information appropriate to the situation. The system captures the time and all of the information is stored in the ORCA database.

When leaving the compliance area, users again scan their badges and the time out is noted in the ORCA database. The user is (optionally) instructed in proper lockout/tagout removal or shift transfer procedures and also (optionally) work order and time & attendance data is recorded in the client's enterprise database system.

The ORCA Administrator

The ORCA Administrator is a web-based application that runs via a web browser and provides a secure, authenticated, real-time interface to the ORCA management functions which include:

  • the capability to manage multiple ORCA kiosk stations at multiple sites
  • the ability to filter the ORCA database by site, area, equipment ID, time, job code, task, subtask and user or user group (other data can be captured as well as required by the client).
  • the ability to specify sites, areas and equipment IDs and to create jobs, tasks and subtasks for each area
  • the assignment of permissions on a user by user basis for specific kiosks (areas), equpiment IDs, jobs, tasks and subtasks
  • the creation and association of lockout/tagout "Just-In-Time" training materials, safety checklists, regulatory notices and other information display to sites, areas, equipment IDs, jobs, tasks or sub-tasks
  • the ability to create filtered reports and print them to any local or network printer
  • automatic generation of archival files
  • the management of alerts and notifications

The ORCA Administrator can be accessed from the client's LAN, WAN or VPN from any device capable of running a standard web browser.

The ORCA system can also be configured to provide real-time alerts for such things as overstays, unauthorized access, ORCA system status, etc. via email, pager or PDA. It can also be integrated directly with your existing security access system including most portal access and employee badging systems.

Enterprise Level Integration

Finally, the ORCA system, via the GlyphStream Enterprise Data Server, can be integrated directly into most ERP & WMS systems, open legacy systems and enterprise databases, allowing the seamless integration of your work orders, tool & parts inventories and labor time & attendance data via the GlyphStream Repair, Resolution & Service History, Labor Tracking and Parts & Tool Crib Checkout Business Process Modules.
